The Rap Sheet - from the Crimefighter
New Midwest Wrestling - Cutting Edge
10/18/2K3 Springfield, IL

Back in the saddle writing the rap sheet for New Midwest Wrestling. My guest rapsheeter had a bit of difficulty getting a tape of the show, which was why it was so late in getting posted, but this one could be way late in getting out with the details of the Rumble.

Before the evening show, there was an auction in Springfield. What was special about this auction was the sale of some very old cars, and one 1912 vintage Harley Davidson. People apparently were much smaller back in, cause that thing was smaller than today's typical motorcycle, heck, a moped is bigger than this bike. There was lots of talk about Jay Leno flying into Springfield to bid on the bike, but that didn't happen and two guys from Decatur bought the bike for only $80 grand. Also that day was homecoming for my second alma mater Illinois College and the grand opening of their new athletic center. The place would be a great location to hold a wrestling event, that's if the college would ever want to host one.

Stu Hart is dead, Road Warrior Hawk is dead. Though Stu has been in poor health for a while and the passing wasn't unexpected, the death of Hawk was a surprise.

Outside NMW, Jason Wells won the hardcore title out of Midwest Powerhouse Wrestling, but ended up losing it back to Chico Es Loco a month later.

Before the show officially started, there was a table and box in the ring and new President Jason Devall came to the ring to conduct the drawing. He notes there are two blanks in the box, whomever draws those are to have a match to see who's #35 and who's #1. Scotty Cash draws first, Eric Logan next, they're happy about the numbers drawn. Discount Gigalo is out next, haven't seen him in a while. Quinten Tyler's out next. Sage Ramsey and Jason Wells come out next, and they're wearing the tag belts. Devall takes the belts from them. Newcomers Decatur Red and Coop come out next, Coop is HUGE. LPC and Shane Matthews out next. Billy Morgan and his crew come out to draw. I didn't notice this earlier, but Cherry Malone drew a number. RON and his men come out wanting their belts back. The cult draws numbers, but Devall makes RON draw too. Guy Smith is out, all female chant is going. Michael Shard comes to draw. He draws a blank! A couple new guys come to draw, then El Diablo Silverado. Another new guy, Derrik Damon comes to draw. Devall's teasing some people. The biggest dude comes out, that's Don Jackson. Stan Sallinger, Earl Grissom, Toga Steve, Matt Boston draw. El Pollo Loco draws next. Another new guy, Hardcore KC. Tom Arson is next. Devall is chatting it up and all the numbers are drawn, who drew the other blank? Noticeably absent, were Christian Haze and Chico Es Loco who were announced but apparently couldn't make it. Garret Ryan apparently wasn't available either. Devall asks for attendants to get the table out since he's still got a bad leg. He then introduces Jimmy "The Bruiser" Osbourne and does something I'd never guess the former Bing Westlake would do, introduce the national anthem. RWJ then comes out to talk.

Bing Westlake then goes over the lineup and says the fans were asking why is RWJ gonna wrestle Real World. He must had been referring to me or something. Danger Doug comes out right away though. Doug takes a program and says Devall owes him money. He greets RWJ, Devall says it's not food. Spicy chicken chant erupts and makes Doug mad. Doug says states he signed a match with him and is in some major danger. RWJ reminds Doug about the last four times they crossed paths and the pedigrees. Doug's bigger and badder now. RWJ says there's ten guys who deserves a shot before him. Doug brags about his win over Cash. RWJ asks if he's still picking the splinters out of his butt. RWJ tells Doug he's the one who puts people through tables and he's gonna give him the chance to put him through a table in a tables match tonight. Jimmy then intros the first match of the night.

Sometime during the match Jason Wells stated that he either broke or dislocated his thumb. Video airs on the wall from earlier today between Eric Logan and El Diablo Silverado talking about the match for tonight, apparently everything's cool between them.

Central Illinois Championship
(c)"The UNDER Achiever" Billy Morgan (4-5) 5’10" 172lbs. Riverton, IL w/ Kev G, Cherry Malone & Morgan Security Guard JJ Tank vs. Eric Logan (8-5) 5'10" 173lbs. Billy rolls out, EDS just stands there looking at Logan, what's he doing? Morgan puts a ladder in the ring, EDS fights Morgan for the ladder, Logan is up and gets jammed in the face with the ladder...you just KNEW that was gonna happen! EDS counts a very slow three for the sports entertainment finish at...

WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Billy Morgan pin -> (5-5) 9 mins. ***

Eric Logan wakes up and is unhappy, he thinks EDS did it intentionally, Morgan's posse is laughing it up over there, Logan and EDS get into a shoving match, EDS with a spear and there's a fight on the mat. Security jumps in the ring to pull them apart. Logan's cussing up a storm at EDS, Logan jumps over the top rope and spears EDS. They're separated again, as video from the back airs...given away as prerecorded with the word PLAY in the corner. Well someone said this video ALMOST aired before the match. Anyway, Morgan's posse gets a visit from Jason Devall who's less than thrilled with what transpired. Devell says since he's president now he's taking possession of the title belt until the next show where he's gonna hang the belt high above the ring, and Morgan's gonna face Logan and EDS in a triple-threat. Morgan asks if this is a ladder match, Devall says it's not a ladder match, it's a tables, ladders and chairs match and the three idiots are banned from the ring area. The next match is introduced, we know who drew one of the blanks, but Devall kept it to himself as to who drew the other one...and out comes Bradley Stephens!

Match For #35 or #1
"Rather Charming" Bradley Stephens (4-2) 6'0" 225lbs. Las Vegas, NV vs. Michael Shard (10-10) 5'8" 160 lbs. Santa Monica, CA - Brad's video features a blue Dodge Viper. But out comes Guy Smith, he yanks James Welden out of the ring and smashes him into the rail. Shard gets up and hits a flatliner on Brad. Guy clobbers Shard and gives him a chokeslam into a powerbomb. Brad covers, Smith throws Welden back in the ring...and SOMEHOW THAT DOESN'T DRAW A DQ??? He counts three and Shard gets SCREWJOBBED BY ANOTHER BAD CALL BY YOU KNOW WHO!!!

WINNER: "Rather Charming" Bradley Stephens pin -> (5-2) 7:30 mins. **˝

An after-show interrogation by the Crimefighter failed to get an explanation I could live with. You know who's gonna be the grand scapegoat of everything soon. Guy Smith jumps on Shard and gives him a piledriver, then grabs the mike. Smith runs through a list of names Shard's lost to, and Smith says he's beaten everyone and he makes the match that it's loser leaves town cause he can't stand him being in "his" promotion and if he can't beat him he doesn't want to be here. NO ONE HONORS THE LOSER LEAVES TOWN STIP!!! NO ONE EVER DOES! Jason Devall's music hits, he says what he did was stupid and states whoever drew #2 in the back now has to swap numbers with Smith as punishment for interfering in the match.

Earl Grissom comes out next and says he's got a problem with someone who's stalking him. He calls out Stan Sallinger, comes out to a fog machine and "Who Are You?" Yes he was the mystery rap sheet writer, Stan has his cell phone out and Earl tells him to put it away. Earl issues a challenge to Stan, he says Stan knows nothing about Hollywood, if by some miracle he whoops him he'll be his slave, but if Earl whoops Stan he and all his agents must leave him alone! Stan says some insult and Earl slaps him. Stan kicks Earl and does a swinging full nelson slam, Stan goes into a tirade about who he is and he'll fight him next month.

NMW Heavyweight Championship - Tables Match
(c)Real World Jeremy (6-3-1) 6'2" 240lbs. Denver, CO vs. "Danger" Doug Fraze (3-3) 6'6" 275lbs. Chicago, IL - Some guy has a sign that says "Danger for President" and "Danger Doesn't Suck, You Do". Danger stands in the aisle wanting for RWJ, but RWJ walks right by him like he wasn't there. Slugfest in the ring, RWJ has Doug in the corner, whip side kick. Danger leaves. RWJ chases him and we have a fight outside, RWJ throws Fraze into the rail then whips him into the post. Fraze responds with a DDT on the floor. Doug fetches a table and puts it up in the corner. Stomp away on the mat, arm wringer into a pumphandle slam by Fraze. RWJ rolls up, Doug follows, choke on the floor, then RWJ is posted. Fraze with a suplex on the floor. Fraze walks around the ring searching for a second table, he can't find one, he chokes RWJ on the floor then hits a suplex. Attempts to start a Danger sucks chant was met with a Danger rules chant, where I'm sitting there's a sizable pro-Danger group cheering him on. He finally finds another table right by where RWJ was on the floor. Doug slugs away on RWJ and smashes him on the apron. Doug goes for a powerbomb on the apron but that's blocked. Fight on the apron, Doug is knocked in the ring. RWJ in, slugaway on the mat. RWJ goes for a pumphandle slam but his back gives out. Doug takes advantage, back breaker, then a stretch across the knee. Doug goes for a suplex, that's blocked, RWJ suplexes him instead, leg drop. RWJ whip big spinebuster. RWJ stands the table up, RWJ goes for a powerbomb, LOW BLOW Fraze to stop it. Doug gives RWJ a pedigree of his own! Doug puts RWJ on the table, and slowly climbs to the top rope, but RWJ gets up and trips him with a bounce of the ropes. RWJ climbs up with Doug, slugs him repeatedly, then does something I'd never think he'd do. PEDIGREE OFF THE TOP ROPE THRU THE TABLE!!! MY GOSH!!! IT'S ALL OVER!!!

WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Real World Jeremy KO -> (8-3-1) 14:30 mins. **˝

Several people have stated this match was horrible up until the pedigree through the table, my guess is the buildup to the finish made it worthwhile. RWJ is looking for his title belt and is not happy that the thing disappeared. Danger slowly gets up, it's a miracle that he wasn't injured after that stunt. And he's still gotta fight in the Battle Royal. Some kid next to me shouts "That's what you get!" Cute.

35-Man Royal Rumble
Your referees are James Welden and Pres. Jason Devall. The wrestlers will be announced as they come to the ring every two minutes, and you must throw someone over the top and both feet hit the floor. Unfortunately they don't use a countdown clock for the entries.

Starting off, #1 is Michael Shard, #2 is "Alpha Male" Guy Smith. Arson works on Sage, Cash back bodydropped Brad out at 72:45 mins. Sage fought off Dredd and Arson, FINAL FOUR! Cash goes after Arson, Sage Ramsey gets back bodydropped out by Arson at 73:25 mins. Three left. Arson and Dredd attack Cash, double-teaming him. Choke on the ropes. Double suplex on Cash. Dredd chokes Cash, pickup double whip clothesline misses, Cash double clothesline. Double axe to the back by Arson. Goes for the piledriver, Real World Jeremy's music hits and he's coming in from the crowd and over the rail. Cash distracts Arson, Dredd's looking the wrong way. RWJ goes after Arson, whip big spinebuster! RWJ hits a pedigree! Dredd throws Cash over, but he hangs on the apron. Dredd LOW BLOW! Arson and Dredd work over Jeremy who's in there illegally. Cash doesn't take the chance to climb back in. Double noggin' knocker by RWJ, who sends them over the top with Cash pulling down on the top rope. Arson and Dredd hit the floor with Cash rolling off the apron on top of them.

WINNER: Scotty Cash -> (6-7) 77:25 mins.

I can't rate a battle royal, much less a royal rumble, but it was a great rumble nonetheless. Uh oh we have a problem, though I had the best angle on the final elimination and one cameraman had the direct camera shot on the finish, of all the crazy things James Welden and Jason Devall missed it! You kidding me? Devall speaks about the matches he's set up and wonders what to do here. RWJ has the mike, asks if the last man standing is the #1 contender, he's the last one standing. Someone shouted fatal four-way. RWJ says the one who deserves the shot the most is Scotty Cash. RWJ says though he owes Arson one for stealing his belt so he wants Arson, he notes a year ago it was Dredd and RWJ to a time-limit draw so he wants him in a match too. So it's Cash vs. Arson vs. Dredd vs. RWJ for the title next month. Devall concurs with the idea and makes it so. And that's the end of the show, as RWJ and Cash lay the belt in the middle of the ring.

A few stats about the rumble: Longest time spent in the rumble - Toga Steve entered as #5 and stayed in for an hour, comes in at 7 mins. and leaves at 72:35, so that's about 65:35 or so. His tag partner, Matt Boston spent the shortest time at about ten seconds in there, Cherry Malone the second shortest time at about 20-30 seconds. LPC spend the second longest time in there, entering at 28 minutes and exiting at 71:15 making it about 43:15 mins. Jason Wells spent the third longest period in there, broken/dislocated thumb and all, entering at about 25:30 and exiting at 68 minutes so that's about 42:30 mins. I cannot say for sure who scored the most eliminations. I missed some of them, and some others were assisted so I'd have to watch the whole thing again on video to give a compete stat list for the rumble. But I'll state with some certainty that Toga Steve was the MVP of the Royal Rumble. Even though the referees claim they didn't see who hit the floor last and everyone on that side of the ring did, I am crediting Scotty Cash with the victory, and that win snaps a NMW seven-match losing streak.

After the show and the arena has been cleared, I made the announcement to the entire roster who the mole was, and someone apparently squealed on him well ahead of time. Yes, Rip Mystic was the mole!

The Verdict: The Rumble was the star of the show this month, though the opening match and title change was a desirable outcome and lit the crowd on fire for the rest of the show. The attendance for this show seemed to be a bit higher than it's been in previous months, dunno the exact counts but I knew I had trouble when I was trying to move away from loud kids and had no where to go. Course, attendance was going to be higher cause the Cubs and the Red Sox did not get into the World Series!
