The Rap Sheet - from the Crimefighter
New Midwest Wrestling - First Blood 2004
4/24/2K4 - Bradfordton, IL
Hot action, hot fans, blowaway show, strange coincidences...
This rap sheet is posted on http://rap-sheet.tripod.com, the Usenet newsgroup news:rec.sport.pro-wrestling.info and now reports are being posted under the past events link of http://www.newmidwest.com !
I've been waiting for this show all month, for one thing get a better
tape of myself commentating. Unfortunately there were problems
with audio and video again this month, at least on the tapes I
watched. I made use of my own tape recorder this time so all
wasn't lost, now if I can dub THAT back in the video somehow, which the
tape actually plays faster than the videotape (arrgh!). Also,
during the month, we had to go out and put fliers up in various
locations that permit us to on bulletin boards all around town in an
effort to get the word out and boost our attendance. I shall be
making Adobe Acrobat PDFs of our fliers for anyone to be able to print
one out on the fly and stick them up. Ironically, our show in
little old Springfield managed to outdraw a few of the Chicago shows,
including the much-touted I-8 with 210 fans or so.
The night before the show, there was an explosion at the Formosa
Plastics Plant in Illiopolis, IL which lies between Springfield and
Decatur. Residents were evacuated from a one-mile radius and
Interstate 72 was shut down. Four people perished from the
blast. It could had been a lot worse though, no chemical releases
were detected in the air and winds were light so anything that was in
the air didn't get too far. Saturday it rained much of the day.
I should also make note, there was some sort of outbreak of eye
irritation among 15 or more people after the show Saturday night,
including people from WQLZ who were in attendance. I was watching
WICS TV-20 Sunday night and was surprised to see a news story where
they were showing video of the USA Sports Center and a report that
Public Health was investigating the cause of the irritation (some press
accounts have called them chemical burns). IL Dept. of Public
Health thus far has not found a cause for the outbreak after checking
the building over. The EPA came over and checked the
heating/cooling systems and found nothing. So right now, it's a
mystery how they contracted the irritations, but the theories range
from someone bringing in an outside agent to gas escaping from a
wheelchair battery. I speaking for myself, was there from 5pm to
11pm and didn't suffer any symptoms from anything, except from
screaming and yelling for three straight hours of course. We're
not the only ones who use this building of course, as there are
basketball games, volleyball, gymnastics, martial arts, along with live
bands and other things going on there for teens. Which leads me
to the next issue, there's a problem with the neighbors of the USA
Sports Center. The owner of the building gave a speech before the
show started stating the chain of events that the owner of a
neighboring building wants to close the USA Sports Center down cause he
doesn't like how the place is being used and thought when he bought his
land that the areas around him would stay as "wilderness" forever or
something. Yeah, dig that pesky urban sprawl! What is more
annoying is that he has a relative on the county board and there's a
big fight over a zone variance. With THAT going on, the irritant
outbreak coming about was not good timing. The big worry for us
is that NMW might end up homeless again. And once again, whenever
the kids have a place to go, the adults DO NOT WANT THEM GOING
THERE! The articles on the zoning fight are now posted on NMW's
message board. Stay tuned, it seems one of my other interests
being politics is gonna come into play shortly.
Special guests in the crowd, besides the WQLZ personalities were
Christian Haze and "Shooter" Curtis Payne from Midwest Powerhouse
Wrestling, and Sinnister from Next Generation Wrestling in Peoria.
Your commentary team is myself and Rich Weities, timekeeper is also
me. Weities refers to me as the stats guy *smirk*. Your
ring announcer is WQLZ's MIKEY??? Yes it's Mikey, who comes out
after Jimmy "The Bruiser" Osbourne is calling in from out of the
country. Jimmy thought he was gonna announce from afar but Mikey
cuts him off. President Jason Devall comes out and tells him he's
working for him tonight. Devall reviews the set up of the title
matches tonight, but Mikey keeps interrupting him. A coin toss
was held and Sage Ramsey has to wrestle someone else before getting his
title shot and Toga Steve will go after Arson first. Devall warns
Mikey that he cannot be Arson's manager tonight, if he gets outta line
he's gonna punish him worse than Ray Lytle.
Sage Ramsey (10-8) 6'4" 268lbs. Peoria, IL vs. "The Overachiever"
Billy Morgan (8-7) 5'10" 173lbs. Riverton, IL w/ PHD - Morgan was the
one who interrupted the playoff match last month for no apparent
reason. Morgan's in a shouting match with the crowd, kick, elbow,
he pounds away, chops. Sage turns it around and chops him
harder. Whip corner back body drop Ramsey, slam, headbutt,
backbreaker gets two. Morgan with a poke, elbow, toss
outside. Morgan goes up, almost slips, crossbody on the
floor. Whip to the post, reverse, Morgan eats it. Sage
tries to hang Morgan on the ropes but just catches the chin, toss
in. Whip Sage, LOW BLOW Morgan gets two! Weities calls it
the "inner thigh". Drop kick Morgan gets two. Whip reverse
Sage side slam gets two. Rear chinlock Sage, jawbreaker
Morgan. Morgan chokes on the rope, runs off the ropes and sits on
him. Inverted Bronco Buster gets two. PWO guys are
harassing various members of the crowd. Morgan on a charge and
they bump heads. Slugfest, headlock Morgan, shoveoff, hard elbow
Sage. Sage suplex gets two. Sage slam, legdrop gets
two. Superkick Morgan gets two, sloppy cover. Morgan whip
reverse chokeslam Sage! PHD on the apron, Morgan charges, James
Welden gets pancaked between PHD and Sage. Morgan Sliced Bread #2
off the ropes on Sage but ref is out. PHD slowly gets up from the
floor, Sage small package gets two. Chop Morgan, whip reverse
Sage charges but eats a boot. Sage hits the Final Fall, PHD puts
Morgan's foot on the ropes, ref ignores it and counts three!
WINNER: Sage Ramsey pin -> (11-8) 10:35 mins. ***¼
Morgan's pissed off, PHD puts a chair in the ring, Morgan bashes Sage's
leg repeatedly with it, then wraps it around the post and bashes the
chair against it. Last year it was Jason Wells getting his leg
banged up when he went after the tag titles with Sage. Deja vu.
Central Illinois Championship
(c)"The Cruiserweight Redneck" Earl Grissom (9-8-0-1) 5'10" 170lbs.
Rushville, IL vs. "Rather Charming" Bradley Stephens (7-4) 6'0" 225lbs.
Las Vegas, NV - Someone's holding a "rather crappy" sign in the crowd,
heh, I admit it, I gave it to them. Weities is rambling on about
various nonsense about dating. Brad teases test of strength and
Earl slugs him down for one. Earl side suplex gets two.
Brad bails, Earl dances in the ring, Brad tries to nail him, Earl back
body drop gets two. Brad with a rake, shoulderblocks, Earl shoves
him in the corner, slugs away, ten punch count but Brad spinebusters
gets two. Suplex Brad, choke, whip clothesline, elbow gets
ONE. Whip clothesline missed, kick to the gut, another whiff,
atomic drop Earl, inverted atomic drop Earl, split legged legdrop,
version of the spinning toe hold. Earl yanks on the leg, Brad
with a KO punch. Elbow to the head by Brad, slam, ONE FOOT cover
gets two. Whip drop kick Stephens! Brad goes out, Earl
slingshots him in and Brad lands HEADFIRST! Earl elbow, whip kick
spinning neckbreaker gets TWO! Whip reverse hip toss attempt and
doesn't get him over. Brad goes up, runs to the other corner and
drops the elbow and manages to hit it. Cover gets two and he
PULLS HIM UP! Toss out, Brad fetches the title belt, Earl back in
and Brad whacks him with it. YOU IDIOT! YOU BLEW IT!
WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Earl Grissom DQ -> (10-8-0-1) 9:10 mins. **¾
Going to the “titantron”, Hardcore KC comes in and runs into 4GQ.
You can guess what happens next, and they throw KC headfirst into the
wall.
Man vs. Woman - Weapon On a Pole Match
Cherry Malone (1-0) 5'6" 140lbs. Springfield, IL w/ "Alpha Male" Guy
Smith vs. "The Freshman" Matt Boston (1-4) 5'8" 135lbs. Carbondale, IL
- Cherry moved back to Springfield, that commute was too much.
Guy Smith is out here AGAIN and Toga Steve is NOT. Cherry also
has a pillow taped to the seat of her pants. Match starts and
Smith is on the apron already! Cherry with a slap, Boston slugs
her, whip hip toss. Boston goes for the paddle, Smith throws him
off, Ricky the ref EJECTS him! GOOD! Cherry with a LOW
BLOW, ram to the corner. PWO harasses me, Freshman turnbuckle
smash, suplex, he goes for the paddle, Cherry grabs the leg.
Boston slam, goes for the paddle, Cherry hurls him off the top.
Choke on the mat, Cherry goes for the paddle, Boston pulls her
off. He pounds away, whip clothesline. Boston goes for the
paddle, trip by Cherry, he's in the tree of woe, she stands on the
"inner thigh". Boston whip flying headscissors Cherry. She
goes up, Boston powerbombs her off. Boston climbs up, Cherry
hooks him up into the Widow's Peak! She goes up again, got the
paddle, Boston drop toe hold, kick DDT. Matt gets the paddle and
whips her for the win. I thought you had to go for the pin after
using the paddle. *shrug*
WINNER: "The Freshman" Matt Boston KO -> (2-4) 7:15 mins. **
I think the first match between them was a little better than this
one. Boston leaves the paddle in the middle of the ring, cause of
who's coming out next. We go to a video montage about the events
from last month, leading up to the title match next. Weities says
Devall has some serious ego issues he needs to attend to. He
ignores my question of what those would be.
NMW Heavyweight Championship
(c)"Trendsetter" Tom Arson (11-9) 6'5" 260lbs. St. Louis, MO vs. "Toga"
Steve Fisher (4-6-1) 5'10" 240lbs. Carbondale, IL - Mikey unbuttons his
shirt and reveals he's wearing the "I'm with Tom Arson" shirt.
Arson with a cheap shot to the back and slugs away, whip reverse, Toga
powerslam, clothesline, Saluki Hammer and Arson runs away. Toga
keeps Arson from getting in the ring, Toga chases, Mikey interferes by
grabbing Toga. Slam Arson, whip clothesline, choke on the middle
rope. Shoulderblocks to the corner, chokes, Mikey wanders
about. Arson whip corner, crashes into Toga. Arson hip
toss, crowd chants Arson sucks. Rollup by Toga gets two.
Drop kick to the knee by Arson, spinning toe hold, stomps away at the
knee, ankle lock gets two. Devall visits the table and asks if
Rich is behaving himself. Suplex by Toga, slugs away, whip big
elbow. Arson works on the leg, yanking back on it. Mikey is
working on Toga's leg! Mikey is just begging to be thrown out,
Arson with a clip! Elbow Arson, knee across the neck by Arson,
dragon screw legwhip. Arson wraps the leg around the rope, suplex
gets two. Arson on the second rope, axe is blocked, belly to
belly suplex Toga gets one. Toga whip reverse BIG boot to the
face Arson. Arson pickup, Toga back body drop, Arson holds his
back, Toga with a BRAINBUSTER gets two. German suplex Toga gets
two. Mikey's on the apron again! Toga gets in his face,
Arson with a CHAINSHOT and that gets the pin! ARRGH!!! I
thought the ref saw that!
WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Tom Arson pin -> (12-9) 11:40 mins. ***¼
Toga asks for the microphone, Toga asks if he likes chains? He
challenges Arson for a Springfield street fight. He doesn't care
if he still has a title next month, he wants to beat the crap out of
him. Ah, a replay of that match from Club 217 without the ceiling!
Danger Doug Fraze comes out for an interview, he says last month his
world has changed. Four guys beat the crap out of him, and he
wasn't booked tonight. He sees that Team Cash is one wrestler
short, so he's volunteering to substitute for Hardcore KC. 4GQ
with a Cherry on top messed with the wrong man. Scotty Cash comes
out, and suddenly the sound dies. The guys behind us are
scrambling to get the sound working again in a panic. After a
long while, Stan Sallinger comes out for Doug Fraze and Scotty Cash to
destroy, whip to the corner, splash by Doug, Cash has a chair and
whacks Stan with it. Doug screams to play some footage on the
wall, Doug points out the beating that he took last month. But
then we are also shown the footage of when Fraze turned on Cash several
months before to break up Dangerous Investment. Cash moons Fraze
on the way out. You know I have to recall the WWE house show a
couple months ago, the sound cut out on them early on so they had to
just bring people out from the back without ring introductions.
The next match is sent to the ring, Tuff N Stuff come out then bring
the ladder!
NMW Tag Team Championship - First Blood
(c)The NEW Cult of RON (8-4) Kincaid, IL - "Don't call me the Khaos
Kidd no more" Steven Bishop (2-9) 5'7" 200lbs. & The Apostle Jakob
(0-2) 5'11" 252lbs. w/ RON vs. Tuff-N-Stuff (3-1) - Eric Logan (10-7)
5'10" 173lbs. Palm Springs, FL & El Diablo Silverado (11-8) 5'8"
173lbs. Beardstown, IL - TNS beat MS Madman last month, but because it
was a handicap match I'm not counting it in either set of
standings. The cult doesn't want to do the match.
Everyone's out and searching for stuff under the ring, EDS baseball
slide drop kick the ladder into the cult. Ricky the ref is
calling for the bell, but hey I already rang it. EDS whip reverse
flying headscissors on Bishop. Jakob gets posted by E-Lo.
Bulldog EDS, E-Lo gets posted. Chairshot Bishop on EDS.
Bishop misses a chairshot and hits the rope. E-Lo suplex,
northern lights suplex, gut wrench blocked. 7th day Bishop on
E-Lo. Bishop whacks someone with a trashcan. Logan in the
tree of woe in a trashcan. EDS gets caught and put in the tree of
woe, baseball slide by Bishop missed. EDS with a legdrop off the
ropes on someone, E-Lo and Jakob are in the aisle fighting, panshot,
toss into the wall. Legdrop EDS on the can, E-Lo rammed into the
door, chairshot EDS on Bishop. Stop sign shot EDS. E-Lo
comes back this way, jumps and swings off the basketball hoop to kick
Jakob! Bishop gets the ladder, EDS sign shot to Bishop. EDS
rides the ladder down on Bishop. E-Lo headfirst dive on
Bishop. Jakob gets a chain! He whacks EDS with it!
Logan stop sign on Bishop. Splash EDS. Rock bottom Jakob on
EDS! Canshot to the shoulder and Jakob nearly hurls the can into
the crowd. Ladder to the back, Jakob throws someone headfirst
into the bricked book! Bishop on top, he's knocked off, Bishop is
monkeyflipped into the ladder. EDS chairshot on Jakob.
Powerslam Bishop on E-Lo, Devall stops by the table. EDS armbar
on Bishop, tries the rope walk but is pulled off. Devall writes a
note to Weities. E-Lo 217 attempt is blocked and he gets
dumped. RON gets a cheap shot on someone. EDS goes for the
rope walk again and does the hurraconranna. EDS slugs away on
Jakob, goes for the unprettier, it's blocked. Bishop 7th day into
a bulldog. E-Lo canshot on Bishop, dumps the can on Jakob.
RON gets in the way, E-Lo pulls a table out. Chairshot on
Bishop. Bishop whip clothesline on EDS. Double whip cult,
double backdrop on E-Lo, he almost crashes to the floor but catches
himself, Logan tries something but the cult throws him CRASHING THRU
THE TABLE! Fans do the cursing chant, I protest that this is
supposed to be a family show, Devall points out it ain't no more!
The cult does a double team F5 on EDS! Bishop facebuster on a
chair. Bishop fireman's carry into a flapjack. Another
table is fetched, Bishop is frogsplashed through a table by EDS!
Jakob hits the Razors Edge on Logan! The cult set up a double
team move, Jakob holds a chair up for Bishop but someone drop kicks the
chair and knocks him off! Someone is slingshotted in, double whip

chairshots Bishop, punches the head. Spinning axehandle on the
mat by EDS, he stomps away. Logan has a chain! EDS beats on
RON. EDS rips the book up! Logan tries to open up Bishop
with the chain! Logan DDTs Jakob! EDS shows the ref that
Bishop has a cut on his head and the ref stops it! I couldn't see
the cut from my seat earlier, but it was there on video.
WINNERS and NEW CHAMPS: Tuff-N-Stuff KO -> (4-1) 17:50 mins. ****½
The crowd erupts loudly! Tuff-N-Stuff celebrates in the ring for
a while, taking parting shots at the cult. RON slowly gets up and
finds his book in shreds, then suddenly turns on Bishop! Jakob
and RON start beating on Bishop, Jakob with the falcon arrow on
Bishop! Huh??? There goes another established tag
team. Why was it necessary to break this team up? The tag
division is quite thin as it is now and there aren't many established
challengers to the tag titles. Looking at the list, if Sage
Ramsey wins the heavyweight title he won't be tagging with Jason Wells
for a tag title match, Toga Steve is tied up in a match with Arson thus
two possible teams aren't available, Drive Thru is on hiatus, that
leaves the Hot Boyz. If they just throw two guys together and
give them a title shot that renders the contender list meaningless.
Don Jackson comes out to his old and better music (but they still need
to dub in that sound bite), looks in rage at the shedded book then
delivers a spinebuster on Bishop through ANOTHER table! Jakob
with a powerslam, RON with a headbutt! Tricky Dick Moore comes
out for his match against Drive Thru Red before the ring could be
cleared. Madman gets in his face, then starts pounding on
him. Madman gorilla press on Moore! Madman BIG splash on
Moore! Double chokeslam on Moore! More music hits and Jason
Wells runs out!
Jason Wells (6-7) 6'0" 230lbs. Kansas City, MO vs. Mississippi Madman
Don Jackson (2-1-1) 6'2" 350lbs. Olive Branch, MS w/ RON - Last month
Madman took a dive for Stan Sallinger and gave him a four second
win. Body tackle by Wells, BODYSLAM! Madman out, the paper
shedds go all over, Wells goes up, SUICIDE DIVE to the floor! RON
is still kicking away on Bishop! Wells drop kick to the
back. Jackson clothesline, whip side slam. Jackson stomps
away, RON takes more cheap shots on Bishop, Wells fires back.
Jackson chokes away, whip sunset flip Wells, Jackson pulls him up,
short-arm clothesline. Jackson goes up and DOES A
VADERSAULT!!! But he misses by a mile as Wells rolled away long
ago, Wells goes up and his a moonsault for two! Wells does the
Vader Bomb for two! Whip reverse Madman gets kicked on a body
drop attempt, drop kick Wells! Wells whip reverse crossbody
caught, powerslam Jackson gets two! Madman whip shot to the head,
Wells rakes him, Madman bear hug, Wells with the clapper, Madman bear
hug, Wells clapper again. Wells clotheslines Madman out and
knocks RON off. Wells on the top, crossbody suicide dive to the
floor! The ref is counting and gets to ten, ARRGH! We've
had more draws this year than 2002 and 2003 combined! Wells and
Jackson fight all the way to the back.
NO WINNER: Double countout draw -> 9:45 mins. **½
They show the video montage on the setup for this next match, which is
a highlight reel of last month's show. Team 4GQ is introduced
first and LPC has the mike. He says just when you thought all of
this couldn't get better, he claims Devall didn't let him pursue a
personal agenda and doesn't like all the fat women around and brings
out who he calls the perfect specimen.. It's a girl that I do not
recognize, though I find later she is gonna use the name "The Perfect
Specimen". I find out who it was later, it was someone I have met
before but her appearance was different so it fooled me. The next
team is out, and we only have three Cash members. Scotty has the
mike, says Doug wanted to be on Team Cash. Cash intros his
teammates, then says he forgot about one member. He asks a kid
who he was forgetting, he says Danger Doug, Cash says no, it's Hardcore
KC! Yes he's okay now and ready to go.

They beat on Cash some more, Danger Doug in, LAST RIDE on Guy
Smith! Cash gives Doug a Team Cash t-shirt. Mikey comes in
to announce the main event, but President Devall comes out. He
takes Mikey's cards and throws him out of the building. Devall

the fence, oops.

Devall comes out and says this is your new title belt! And they
got a bigger title belt for Sage, Arson takes home the old belt,
bloodstains and all. The locker empties out for Ramsey and we're
outta here. I walk over to the camel-toe obsessed PWO guys who
hold one of their stupid signs slamming me and I rip it up, much to the
delight of several girls who had the displeasure of sitting in front of
them.
The Verdict: Technical and environmental glitches aside, several
matches hit three stars and one at 4½ so this was pretty much a
blowaway show and an easy thumbs up. This show is said to be the
first one they are gonna market on home video so we'll see how the
finished product turns out.
So far for next month, it will be Tom Arson vs. Toga Steve in a
hardcore match, dubbed the Springfield Street Fight, and is actually a
rematch from Club 217. Other matches have yet to be announced.
