Alexis Holmeier Benefit Show

Today's event was held at the Grandview Municipal Center in the suburb of Springfield, Grandview, IL. The wrestling started quite promptly with the ring set up in the softball field behind the building. In attendance was UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes who lives close by in nearby Hillsboro, IL. Alas, he didn't get there in time for the battle royal, would had been interesting. Some interesting tidbits before I do a brief recap on the matches. Playing at the GMC was the band "1 Adam 12" named after the TV show of the 70s that currently airs on the Nick at Nite TV Land channel--and as a side note, one of the stars of "1 Adam 12" Martin Milner was here in Springfield as part of the Route 66 Festival. End of dumb trivia. During the afternoon was a silent auction, featuring a number of items. Well, what got laughs throughout the whole thing when they were reading off the winners of the items, Matt Hughes's name kept turning up on packages of tanning and bath & body works products, it was actually his companion Cody who made the bids but wrote his name down, ha ha. During the live auction, a few wrestlers put themselves up for bid as dinner dates.

I chose not to rate the matches nor keep time this time around, and did not wish to do the note taking I've done previously, but there wasn't a lot to cover in this case since this is a minor show. I had much better results with picture taking being outdoors. Now I've seen why I've had trouble with pictures I've taken at previous shows, cause these came out without any blurring.

"Alpha Male" Guy Smith (3-2) vs. Billy "The Kid" Grissom (debut) -- Coming out of the "heel" dugout, Guy Smith who'll be facing Tom Arson in a hardcore match in three weeks, or so we think. Interesting enough with this charity show we have the debut of four wrestlers, and here is Billy "The Kid" Grissom, either the cousin or younger brother of Earl Grissom. Alas, the kid wasn't able to do much against Guy Smith, as Smith pretty much squashed Grissom and pinned him after nailing the five star splash. Afterward, Smith tried doing the spineroonie, managed to do it okay.

WINNER: Guy Smith pin -> (4-2)

Sage Ramsey (3-2) vs. Toga Steve Fisher (1-0) -- Toga Steve didn't have his partner Garret Ryan around. Sage and Steve went at it for quite a while, though at one point Toga Steve almost dropped Sage on his head when he couldn't carry the 270 pound Sage for a bodyslam. Luckily, Sage planted his hands and tumbled down safely. Sage Ramsey finished off Toga Steve with a double chokeslam.

WINNER: Sage Ramsey pin -> (4-2)

Hmmm....I think Smith and Sage are gonna have to face off soon now that they have four wins each.

NMW Title Match
(c) Michael Shard w/ PHD (2-4) vs. Dredd Walker (3-1-1) -- Wow, this is a surprise. Earlier this week I happened to run into Scotty Cash and Michael Shard at the health club, Shard didn't think he was going to wrestle the show. Dredd Walker was in line to get a title shot but thought he would have to go through another #1 contenders match to get it. Well during the match, Shard actually pulled off Randy Orton's still unnamed finisher, the spinning leg neckbreaker but only got a two count. Dredd tries to finish off Shard with the Dreddnought, but Shard slipped out and rolled up him and pulled the tights for three. Yeek...

WINNER and Still champ: Michael Shard pin -> (3-4)

Michael Shard is gonna be defending his title against Rip Mystic in three weeks for the big rematch, but that didn’t happen.

20-Man Battle Royal -- Okay, you have...Billy Grissom, Sage Ramsey, Guy Smith, Michael Shard, Toga Steve, El Diablo Silverado, Bing Westlake, Doug Frazier (debut), Eric Logan, Tom Arson, Real World Jeremy, Christopher Rain (debut), Quentin (debut), Dredd Walker, Rip Mystic, Scotty Cash, The Flashback Kid (debut), The Khoas Kidd, Leo Lagossi, and PHD??? Yes PHD, we'll get to that in a second. Right before the battle royal starts, Bing Westlake gets the mike and screams about what a hellhole this place was (being a softball field an odd part of town, heh...well yeah, this was an out of the way place in town.) He does a bit more bashing, then all the wrestlers in the ring gather up including PHD in the ring. The bell rings and EVERYONE starts beating on him (except for three who didn't enter the ring right away). Doug Frazier the new caddy for Bing charges the ring to break it up. PHD because he started the match inside the ring was thought by the referees to be an entrant so they kept nagging him to reenter the ring. After a minute or so, Undertaker's "Rollin' Rollin'" music hits and the Khaos Kidd tries playing the role of Undertaker. Well everyone in the ring starts beating the crap out of Kidd. Christopher Rain gets dumped first, this person was dressed in a gray shirt and black shorts, and had facepaint under the eyes--note that he was associated with another wrestling group in town that apparently couldn't get off the ground apart from their website, once known as Capital City Championship Wrestling or 3CW. Oh well this town I don't think would have supported two wrestling companies. The Flashback Kid is press slammed out by Sage Ramsey, which PHD is complaining loudly about it. Flashback wears a green and red mask with multicolored shirt and blue shorts, and is really small. Quentin is dumped next, he was wearing the black shirt with flames, don't know much about him. Khaos Kidd is next to go and is flung quite a distance. Billy the Kid is thrown out. Scotty Cash now decides to join in the match, but gets thrown out quickly. But he quickly runs back into the ring before the two refs notice he was eliminated. The ring is emptying and I seem to have missed a few eliminations, Leo Lagossi is out. Bing Westlake is out. Scotty Cash is thrown out again, but tells "Mike the Ref" that he just exited the ring on his own...note the ref told this was the one who screwed Khaos Kidd a couple weeks ago. Cash throws Silverado out illegally, but Silverado jumps back in and threw Cash out a third time and runs him off. PHD is forced to enter the ring, but climbs over the top rope and drops to the ground when Sage Ramsey tries to attack. Guy Smith dumps Sage Ramsey and gloats. Dredd Walker gets dumped next. Tom Arson and Guy Smith eliminate each other when Arson does a leaping clothesline and tumbles out with Smith. Now we're down to the final four, Eric Logan, Doug Frazier, Rip Mystic and Real World Jeremy. Logan & Mystic pair off, as RWJ & Frazier pair off. Rip Mystic hits a massive standing tornado DDT. RWJ takes down Frazier, then goes after Mystic. RWJ hits a massive spinebuster on Mystic. RWJ sets to clothesline Mystic out of the ring, but he tumbles out with Mystic. The two remaining, Doug Frazier and Eric Logan. Frazier holds down Logan and beats the tar out him. Powerslam by Frazier, then a powerbomb. Frazier hurls Logan over the top rope, but Logan hooks the rope and hangs on while Frazier does premature celebrating. Logan gets back in, nails Frazier and dumps him over the top rope giving Logan the win. Bing Westlake razzes Frazier for losing after the match.

WINNER: Eric Logan

The whole wrestling event lasted about an hour. For a charity show, we see the debut of a number of guys, those being Billy Grissom, Doug Frazier, Christopher Rain, Flashback Kid, and Quentin. Of those men, Billy Grissom and Doug Frazier have wrestled matches, the latter three have yet to be heard from again. I’m just wondering how long they will be sitting on the sidelines until they get a match or if they will all be one match wonders. Frazier to this day continues to claim he won the battle royal, refusing to accept the fact that he turned his attention away from Logan and missed the fact that he landed on the apron and not the ground.
